Here are Ten Things You Need to Know Right Now. World Cup-date: Argentina. In a stunning World Cup soccer final, Argentina beat France 4-2, winning with penalty kicks. Two of the four goals were scored by Argentine legend Lionel Messi, who announced he'll be retiring after the World Cup. This is Argentina's first time as World Cup champions since 1986.

Let's Go, Ada Twist Earns an Emmy. The pint-size scientist alongside her pals Rosie Revere and Iggy Peck took home an Emmy for Outstanding preschool animated series. In other entertainment news, the San Francisco Ballet has staged a neurodivergent-friendly Nutcracker. During the show audience members with autism, developmental disabilities, or sensory sensitivities can move around their seats, vocalize and get up and leave if they need to. The lights and sound will also be adjusted. Another theater in the Bay Area, The American Conservatory Theater has staged a Christmas Carol without the haze and with a sensory break zone. It's really great to see big institutions accommodating diverse audiences. Excellent.

Next up, Ta-ta, TikTok. Congress is considering a bill that would ban TikTok from the US. Republicans and Democrats are concerned that the app, which is based in China, is gathering private information about its American users. Chinese government officials could access TikToks as user data is saved outside of China.

A Wild Winter Storm. A huge winter storm reaching coast to coast hit the US last week. Many communities lost power due to snow storms and some southern states saw tornadoes. Three feet of snow fell in Lake Tahoe, snowing in some residents.

Research to Save Roosters. Biologists have come up with a way to prevent male chicks from ever developing into chicken eggs. Millions of male chicks are killed each year because they can't lay eggs. Scientists use gene editing to change chickensβ DNA which could mean no more kills.

Hams Hitting the Highway. Last week a truck carrying pork products crashed in North Carolina spilling hams on the highway. The drivers involved received only minor injuries in the accident. But, the hams broke the five-second rule so we won't be eating them.

BTS Members in the Military. Members of the massively popular k pop band BTS announced that they will each perform their mandatory military service in South Korea starting with bandmate Jin. In South Korea, two years of military service is required for all able-bodied men under 30. But, some fans of BTS said they'd already served their country by promoting Korean music and tourism. This announcement brings that debate to an end. Ash and Pikachu Caught Them All. Well, kind of Ash Ketchum and his trusty sidekick Pikachu are set to depart the mainline Pokemon series after 25 years as the main characters. The Pokemon Company announced that the story of the iconic duo will come to an end with 11 final episodes that will air in Japan in 2023. Earlier this year, Ash became the Pokemon world champion for the first time so it will be a well-earned emotional goodbye.
