Lunar New Year is a holiday celebrated in China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia, and many countries all over the world. This year is the Year of the Tiger and what better way to celebrate than with five fascinating facts about tigers? Number one, tigers are great swimmers. Unlike most big cats and small cats, these stripy giants love the water. Number two, the MGM roaring lion you see at the beginning of movies is actually a tiger. The sound designer decided that a Tiger had a bigger roar. I don't know, it all sounds scary to me. Whatever. Number three, tigers have been roaming the earth for 2 million years, a lot longer than us humans. Cool. Number four, most wild tigers live in India. Number five, okay, this one is kind of weird, but apparently, Tiger pee smells like buttered popcorn. Now I wonder what movie popcorn butter really is. Let's go to Ten News correspondent Sarah Namias is to find out all about Lunar New Year.

Dancing dragons, street performances, and fireworks sound like a party? Well, it is. Tuesday, February 15th marks the final day of the Chinese New Year celebration. Also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival. It is one of the most important holidays for East and Southeast Asian cultures around the world. The traditional Chinese calendar is a Lunar calendar, which means you guessed it, it's based around the cycles of the moon. The new year starts with the first new moon of the Lunar calendar and lasts for 15 days when the full moon appears. Old Chinese legend has it that in ancient times, on the eve of the new year, a monster would emerge from the sea and attack nearby villages. But villagers outsmarted the fabled beast when they discovered that it was afraid of loud noises, fire, and the color red and use them to chase it away. To this day, firecrackers and red decorations are used to celebrate the New Year. Lunar New Year is a time for large family gatherings, festive meals, and traditions that symbolize good fortune and abundance, as well as rituals to honor ancestors. In preparation for the Lunar New Year, houses are thoroughly cleaned to rid them of any bad luck and are decorated with red banners and lanterns inscribed with messages and riddles. Another tradition is for elders to give children money and red envelopes for good fortune in the coming year. Awesome. The New Year celebrations come to an end with a spectacular lantern festival, a festival with displays of colorful lanterns, fireworks, and parades, including long colorful dragons and lions carried by dancers. The Lunar New year also marks another significant event. The Chinese calendar follows a 12-year cycle, each linked with one of 12 animal symbols. Maybe you've heard people say they were born in the year of the dog or the ox. I for one was born in the Year of the Horse, which according to the Chinese zodiac makes me a kind-hearted, easygoing, helpful person. Why thank you I will happily take the compliment. This Lunar New year marks the start of the year of the tiger. In Asian cultures. The tiger is the king of the jungle and is said to symbolize leadership bravery and strong will curious to learn what animals signifies your birth year an easy search online for the Chinese Zodiac will give you tons of fun facts to discover.

Listen, Tenβers, number one, believe in yourself. You have to be your own cheerleader in this world because there are a lot of beautiful people in this world, but no one would truly know what you're thinking and how you're feeling all the time. So you have to be there for yourself. Now of course you want to surround yourself with amazing people because the more amazing people that you know, the more amazing people that you're surrounded by, the better that you'll feel. But, you always have to remember that in those hard times, you have to lift yourself up and believe in yourself. Because at the end of the day, you will always have yourself to believe in and look after. Love yourself.

Thank you, Bethany. The United States has taken home 12 Olympic medals and we finally have some gold. Lindsey Jacobellis took gold in the women's Snowboard Cross. Chloe Kim snagged the gold in snowboarding for the women's halfpipe. Nathan Chen got gold in figure skating in the men's singles and Ashley Caldwell, Chris Lewis, and Justin Schoenfeld earned a gold medal in freestyle skiing in the mixed team aerials, which was the first time this event has ever been held to the Olympics. Pretty cool, right? Cool beans, man. 19-year-old Zara Rutherford became the youngest woman to fly around the world all by herself. Zara is a dual citizen of Britain and Belgium and went on a legendary 41 country journey that spanned 32,300 miles and broke two Guinness World Records. She's also the first Belgian to fly around the world alone. When I was 19, I ate a whole pizza by myself. So yeah, Zara is way cooler than me. Are chimpanzees using bugs as medicine? Researchers witnessed chimpanzees capturing insects and applying them to their wounds as well as the wounds of other chimpanzees. It's believed this could be a form of medication for them and has never been observed before. This happened numerous times within a community of about 45 chimpanzees at the Longo National Park in Gabon. And yes, Bethany, I do have a paper cut on my finger and no, I do not want you to put a spider on it. No, thank you very much. I'm Ryan Willard. And that's the rundown, back to you Bethany.
