The franchise spans trading cards and TV shows, to video games and apps. It's a game that like its characters evolves over time. So to celebrate Pokemons 25th anniversary, you've got to catch these five fascinating facts. Number one, you know Pokemon is wildly popular. But did you know it's the second most successful video game franchise in the world? Only Nintendo Super Mario Brothers is bigger. Number two. The name Pokemon comes from a combination of the two words pocket and monster, pocket monster. Pocket-mon. Pokemon. See, even the name evolves. Number three, Pokemon Go, the app that took the world by storm in 2016 was actually inspired by an April Fool's joke. The creator John Hankey placed a Google Ad asking for a poke-master to catch a bunch of Pokemon. So many people wanted to try being a real life poke-master Hankey made it into an actual game. Thank you Hankey. Number four, many Pokemon creatures are based on real life animals. The characters pollywog, pollywrath and pollywhirl are all based on tadpoles. Each of them even has a spiral on its stomach that resembles the belly of an actual tadpole. I wonder what animal Bulbasaur is based on. Bulbasaur, bulbasaur, bulbasaur! And number five the Pokemon Go app had over 15 million downloads in its first week of release. That's more people than the entire population of Belgium. Thanks Carter. Even if you don't know you're pollywrath from you're pollywhirl, now has never been a better time to discover the world of Pokemon. Don't give up till it's over. Okay, if you're all ready for watch party on the couch, there are tons of new movies and shows for you to hit play on. For fans of road trips and robots, Netflix's "The Mitchell's versus the Machines" has you covered. While the Mitchells are on a family bonding vacation the unthinkable happens: robots take over the earth. So naturally, it's up to the whole family to save the world. Besides being laughed out loud hilarious, the movie has tons of Easter eggs plus awesome voice acting, including social media star does the pug who lends his uh, bark to the voice of Mitchell's family dog. If villain origin stories mixed with high fashion is more your thing, check out "Cruella" which just came out yesterday on Disney Plus, the movie explores the untold story of Cruella de Vil who came to fame in 101 Dalmatians movies. No puppies were hurt in the making of this movie. And there's lots of black and white outfits that will have fashionista viewers drooling. Is sci fi more your thing? Grab your lightsaber and tune into "Star Wars The Bad Batch" series, which started last month on Disney Plus. It's an animated series that follows experimental clones through a galaxy far far away. If the future is not for you, how about the past? "Camp Cretaceous" the animated spin off of the Jurassic Park universe just released its third season on Netflix earlier this week. Summer Camp on an island full of dinosaurs. What could go wrong? No spoilers here, but if you're into getting chased by T-Rex, you better get binging. And if 80s classics or more your speed, time travel with Marty McFly in "Back to the Future" movies, or go on a treasure hunt with the gang in "The Goonies," or even fall in love with the "Princess Bride." And that's it for our movie round up.
Pride Month starts next week, and we are so excited to celebrate with LGBTQ listeners, fans and family. Pride Month is not just a celebration and affirmation, it's also a time to remember and recognize the history of activism that got us to where we are today. And a reminder of where we still need to go. And pride means something a little bit different to everyone. So we are looking to share stories from all of our listeners here in The Ten News. Whether you're part of the LGBTQ community, an activist or an ally, we'd love to hear what pride means to you. Grab your adult and give us a call at our new phone line 877-Ten-News and leave us a message that's 877-t-e-n-n-e-w-s or of course you can email us at hello@thetennews.com And make sure to tune in to our pride episode on June 1 to learn more about the month of pride. Up next it's time for:

Trivia on The Ten. Today, lots of movies use special effects created by computers to make cool explosions. Scary Monsters are wacky weather. But before CGI movie makers had to get creative. What do they sometimes use to make fake snow in old movies? Is it A) cotton balls, B) snowflake shapes cut out of paper or C) cornflakes painted white? Did you guess it? The answer is C! Snow is often made out of cornflakes that were painted white. Around the early 1940s, filmmakers needed something that would show up on camera looking like snow. Enter painted cereal. The problem was that the cornflakes were so loud while they were falling and being stepped on that the actors voices had to be re-recorded after the shoot. And cereal isn't the only thing that filmmakers have used to make snow. Other movies have used marbles, sand, flour, even salt.
