Ryan Willard 00:08
Hey, Pamela, uh yeah, I never got my letter from Hogwarts. I think it got lost in the mail. So, I'm more of a self-taught wizard.
Pamela Kirkland 00:14
Right. Same here.
Ryan Willard 00:16
Expelliarmus! Oops...

Here are Ten Things You Need to Know.
Pamela Kirkland 00:42
We have a couple of big Harry Potter stories today. May 2nd, which just happens to be International Harry Potter Day, HBO announced plans to reboot the Harry Potter books as a TV show. Each season of the TV show will cover one book and HBO executives are saying it may run for 10 years but Potter fans eager for the TV adaptation will have a while to wait. The show is expected to air in 2025 or 2026. And speaking of Harry Potter, the actor who originated the role of Harry in the film's, Daniel Radcliffe, just announced he's now a dad. He and his partner welcomed a new baby.
Ryan Willard 01:30
Harry Potter is a dad!?
Pamela Kirkland 01:32
Yes, well, not Harry. Daniel is...
Ryan Willard 01:35
It's official, I'm old.
Pamela Kirkland 01:40
The Harry Potter star is very private so we don't know the baby's name or gender. But we're sending Ten News Snaps and 'awh's' to the brand new baby.

Next up, the world has been captivated by a story just as magical as Harry Potter and that's the story of Wrexham AFC. The Welsh soccer team the oldest one in Wales and the third oldest protein in the world was purchased in 2020 by movie star Ryan Reynolds and his friend TV star Rob McEleney. The team's supporters dreamed of a day Wrexham would be promoted and rejoined the Football League, and the team did just that last Saturday, winning their league title and moving up into a new league. The documentary series Welcome to Wrexham from Reynolds and McEleney has driven tourism to the small Welsh town and made this relatively unknown team a worldwide phenomenon.

Back in the US President Joe Biden has announced his plan to run for re-election in 2024. Last Tuesday, he made the official announcement. He was the oldest person ever elected as president at 78 years old, and critics say because of his age, he should step down. If he wins reelection he will be 82 at the start of his second term.
Ryan Willard 02:56
Well, speaking of changing Heads of State on Saturday, May 6th, King Charles the Third will be crowned king in the first coronation ceremony since his mother, Queen Elizabeth the Second was crowned in 1953. 2,000 people will file into Westminster Abbey in London and millions will be watching from home as King Charles and Queen Camilla are crowned.

While we're on the subject of kingdoms Disney has sued Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. For over a year Disney and DeSantis have been feuding over Disney's opposition to the so-called Don't say gay Bill DeSantis worked with Florida legislators to take away some of the power from Disney-controlled the local area around their parks from the fire department to the upkeep of the roads. But the mouse isn't taking this lying down. Disney is fighting back by suing. They say DeSantis is using his power as governor to retaliate against a private business. Something that Disney says is an illegal action that violates free speech. DeSantis has said he will do even more to limit Disney's power in the state. A strange twist DeSantis actually got married at Disney World. Another big brand making headlines Barbie is extending its range of inclusive dolls and has released a doll with Down syndrome. Barbie has also released dolls with accessibility aids like hearing aids and wheelchairs and a Barbie and Ken with the skin condition vitiligo. The toymakers vice president says the company wants kids to be able to play with dolls that look like them. That's really cool. Yeah, we love to see it.
Ryan Willard 04:44
Now on to a story about space exploration. A Japanese company was trying to be the first private nongovernmental organization to send a lander to the moon. Unfortunately, company representatives have said the mission did not succeed. They lost contact with their lender last week and suspect there was a hard lending aka it crashed. This was Japan's first shot at the moon but the Japanese Space Agency JAXA plans to make an attempt later this year.
Pamela Kirkland 05:16
From space to a place we know even less about, the ocean. Scientists are baffled by a swift increase in the global ocean temperature, the surface of the ocean is the hottest it has ever been. And it's never gotten this hot this quick. Climate scientists are worried that with this unexpected temperature rise plus an El Nino weather event that's expected later this year, it could mean the earth will hit a 1.5 degrees Celsius temperature increase decades earlier than expected.
Ryan Willard 05:49
Okay, that's bad. Wait. So, what caused this temperature rise?
Pamela Kirkland 05:52
Ironically, some of the work we've done to help the climate may have contributed to restrictions on shipping and helped remove aerosols from the atmosphere, but those aerosols probably reflected sunlight away from the ocean surface. Without them, warming happened faster. Is there any good news? Yes, scientists think that after the El Nino weather pattern, there will be a temperature reduction and that we still have time to make the changes that would avoid catastrophic global warming.
Ryan Willard 06:25
It's a relief to hear that we can still do something. So let's wrap up with two holidays coming up at the end of this week. Thursday, May the Fourth Be with You, It's Star Wars Day. I'll be celebrating by playing the new game Jedi Survivor, And, Friday the fifth of May is Cinco de Mayo. This holiday celebrates Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. There's so much to celebrate this weekend.
